Messing About in Boats

Today’s adventure is going to be river rafting. It seems to be one of the activities that I liked doing as a kid that my kids want to do, too. There is a picture of me at about ten grinning in the same kind of raft from the same rafting company that I intend to visit with T.

To paraphrase Rat from The Wind in the Willows, summer is supposed to be about messing about in boats. In my world, the boat part needs to require absolutely no skill on my part. One of my best summers ever was spent almost entirely in a raft floating around the pool reading. I have been sailing with people who know about halyards and bollards and masts and it was interesting, but not precisely relaxing. On the Truckee River, lack of skill might get you stuck in a bush for a while, or slightly wetter than you might prefer, but it’s not going to be dangerous.

I intend to laugh, to get damp, and to enjoy the sun with my kid. And I’ll bring back a photo to prove it.
