Armchair travel to real travel

T. and I have traded in our Greek myths for Norse ones. We’re leaving tomorrow for Europe, where we intended to spend our first five days in Athens. The Greek economy, having caused modern Greeks to riot, has prevented us from communing with ancient warriors.

Brent, whose patience is unequaled, spent a huge chunk of time doing web research as we tried to find an alternative destination. Edinburgh? They have castles and men in kilts! Swords! Bloody history! And, unfortunately, an international film festival sucking up all the hotel rooms.

Rome? We could trade our Greek warriors for Roman legions! The Coliseum! Catacombs! Violent religious paintings! Only if we wanted to stay far from everything or pay through the (Roman?) nose.

We are going to Oslo. Oslo has an entire museum of Viking ships. Plus Thor Heyerdahl. Castles! A giant ski jump! The Scream!

So, our first adventure, and we haven’t even left yet!
