Book Report Thursday: Reamde

Let’s get this out of the way: I am a Neal Stephenson fan. I have even read The Big U. I am biased in his favor, even after hearing him read and even though he cut off all his cool long hair. (Petty? Me? Surely not!)

That said, I think that Reamde is one of his better books. The exposition part that explains the underpinnings of the video game at the center of the plot is a little dry, but I’m not sure that could be helped. After that, it’s all kidnappings, terrorists, hackers, militia-types, and bikers, with occasional digressions into drug-running, bear-skinning, and pissing in buckets. At heart, however, it is a love story about a guy and his niece and a place.

Two thumbs up, although anyone I would give it to probably already bought it.
